Britt’s 19th book of poetry, “Emergency Room,” a collection of what could be called some of his most profound and difficult work to date, offers us an example of how a poet addresses social issues without being didactic. For the “issue” that underlies the “Emergency Room,” taken as a whole, is nothing less than America’s descent into the twenty-first century’s version of the Wasteland.
