Necropole is a book-length poem on the relationship between prophetic and social loneliness. Prophetic loneliness is the loneliness of one who sets him or herself outside society in order to view it more clearly. Social loneliness on the other hand is a form of suffering that, given humankind’s essential connectedness, borders on spiritual death. Necropole is an examination, in poetry, into whether prophetic loneliness does or does not also lead to spiritual death–and if not, why not. The poem is illustrated by the artwork of Alison Chase Radcliffe.
